COURSE INFORMATION

This course is delivered as part of Fife College Energy Transition Skills Hub, supported by Shell. Join our NC Engineering Systems course at Level 5 to prepare for a fulfilling career in the engineering industry. This comprehensive program offers essential skills for craft and technician levels, progression routes to higher education, and specialised knowledge in renewable engineering. Enhance your abilities in communication, numeracy, ICT, and problem-solving while opening doors to Engineering Technician status and beyond.
The skills that will be developed during this course will help you to achieve employment within the Engineering Renewable industry, with a particular focus on renewable technologies and additional appropriate skills such as:

  • hand skills
You will have the opportunity to use Fife College's innovative Nanogrid Learning Environment, building your understanding of renewable technologies on a functional grid system. Units covered will include: 

  • Electrical and mechanical principles
  • Renewable energy introduction
  • Renewable energy technology
  • Wind and solar power
  • Numeracy 
  • IT skills
  • National 5 at minimum grade C (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics and a Technical subject or; 
  • Successful completion of Performing Engineering Operations qualification and satisfactory completion of an aptitude test or; 
  • Completion of Intro to energy level 4 or Suitable work experience within the engineering sector and satisfactory completion of an aptitude test. 
  • Progression onto NC Engineering Systems Level 6 or a Modern Apprenticeship.
  • The NC Engineering Systems at SCQF Level 5 opens excellent employment opportunities in both the private and public sectors for aspiring engineers. The course offers great flexibility, allowing progression to higher qualifications and adaptability to local employer needs. 
  • It caters to a broad range of disciplines, enhancing employability and career advancement prospects. The focus on renewable energy technologies gives you the foundational skills to secure employment in the energy transition/net zero sectors.
  • The interview process will be a group session to tour campus, individual aptitude test followed by an individual interview.
