My name is Kayla Mason. I’m 18 and I’m from Burntisland.

I started at Fife College in September 2023 after S6 because I was completely unsure what I wanted to do. I decided to do HNC: Applied Sciences. I thought it would give me a good standing. I always liked science so it would let me explore different avenues.

I’ve really enjoyed the practical side of the course. You get to do a lot of lab work and things you never get to experience at school. The science is next level, and it’s really interesting to build on what you’ve learnt at school.

The environment is very welcoming at Fife College. It’s quite small classes which is really good. You get to properly know the people you’re with. You get to meet different people who are doing different things...no one is doing the same thing after we leave. It’s a wide mix and a really friendly environment.

After this year I’m going to Dundee University to do Child and Mental Health Nursing. I decided that the theory science route wasn’t for me, but I enjoy working with people.

I’d recommend Fife College, especially if you’re not sure what to do. It gives you a wide base and clarity about what to do. I’m excited for the next stage!
