Business Improvement Programme

Lean is a universal approach to eliminating waste and improving performance. It challenges organisations to proactively illuminate problems (waste) and performance issues from the perspective of the customer, identify the underlying processes impacting performance and commit to continually improving those processes.The Business Improvement Programme is a practical approach to developing quality within organisations. By bringing people together, from a range of sectors, you will have the opportunity to learn from each other and gain an insight into how other organisations approach Continuous Improvement.Alongside a series of workshops exploring the theory and tools within Lean, you will be tasked with identifying and undertaking a project within your workplace. You will be visited in your workplace by our Lean Expert Practitioner who will offer feedback and assess your progress. At the end of the programme, you will present the results of your project, demonstrating measurable benefits to your organisation and customers.

Certification:

ILSSI Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certified.

Duration:

  • 5 months - 1 workshop per month over 4 months plus a presentation day
  • 9.30am - 4.30pm
  • A workplace visit after each workshop by our Lean Expert Practitioner will be agreed on an individual basis

    Who is this course for?

    This course is suitable for anyone who is interested in identifying and eliminating waste within their workplace. You should be in a job role where you have the autonomy and support to run a continuous improvement project.

    What qualifications will I gain?

    On completion of your project you will receive a Lean Green Belt certificate from the International Lean Six Sigma Institute (ILSSI) in addition to a Lean Improvement Programme Certificate from Fife College.

    • Process Mapping – Understand your Value Stream

    Module 2

    • The simple problem-solving process – PDCA / 8D / DMAIC
    • The supply chain – how processes come together, inputs and outputs
    • Delegates create their own internal supply chain chart
    • Brainstorming
    • Cause and effect
    • CTQ / SIPOC
    • Why / Why
    • Pareto charts
    • Using data to drive change and improvement

    Module 3

    • A practical simulation – driven by Management Accounts
    • Measuring Productivity / Work study
    • SMED / OEE

    Module 4

    • Workplace organisation – 5S your environment
    • Quality / Cost / Delivery – what does it look like in your business
    • The Cost of Quality
    • Error proofing for consistent processing
    • Project Presentations – How to bring out your improvement / make them stick

    Presentation Day

    • The programme will be completed as you present your projects to all participants, sponsors other stakeholders. You will receive coaching back in your workplace by a Lean Expert Practitioner to apply the learning to live in-company projects.
