Skills for Work: Engineering Skills National 5 (Glenrothes) (Schools Pupils Only)

The National 5 Skills for Work Course: Engineering Skills at SCQF level 5 provides an introduction to the engineering sector and a progression route into Level 6 Engineering courses offered at Fife College, as well as giving you preparatory skills to then apply for trade apprenticeships / employment in industry. This is a hand-on practical course delivered in the comprehensive automotive workshops at the Stenton Campus Glenrothes, has been specifically designed for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in the automotive, mechanical, electrical, fabrication and welding, or manufacturing engineering industries. You will also develop many transferable skills, including time-management, communication, problem-solving and team-working.

Application Information

What further study options are available?

Attainment of this course would count towards the “Technical Skill” entry requirement in our Level 6 programs, so you would only then require to attain National 5 Mathematics and English.  Then subject to successful interview and a positive ILR Learner Record you could potentially attain a place on one of the following Level 6 programs;

  • Foundation Apprenticeship Engineering (School Pupils Only)
  • IMI Award: Transport Maintenance IMI Level 2
  • NC Mechanical Engineering
  • NC Manufacturing Engineering
  • NC Electrical Engineering

What career opportunities are there?

Completion of this and further courses can lead to modern apprenticeships or employment as a trainee in a wide range of engineering and technology jobs, such as
