Duration:

  • The course will run in Semester 2, from February 3rd to June 20th 2025. The majority of this time will be in the Dunfermline campus with trips to Levenmouth to use our state of the art Geospatial Learning Lab and ARC-GIS software.
  • You will be expected to be in College on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9.30 to 3.30.

  • For anyone interested technology and data who would like to build skills to enter careers using geospatial data.

What skills will I learn?

In this course, you will gain a comprehensive set of geospatial skills. Through Introduction to Geospatial Technologies and Applications you will explore:
  • The basics of GIS and its real-world uses.
  • Introduction to Geospatial Data, software, and projects will teach data management and GIS software proficiency.
  • In remote sensing, Earth Observation (EO), and satellite observation technology, you will learn to interpret satellite images and understand earth observation techniques.
  • Conducting a geospatial project hones project planning, data analysis, and reporting skills.
  • Using GIS and image processing systems in a sustainable society focuses on applying geospatial technologies to environmental and social challenges.
  • Applying geospatial skills in industry and preparing for the workplace offers practical insights into industry practices and professional readiness.

  • Introduction to Digital Images
  • Image Processing for Space Data Applications
  • Types of Data, Data Sources, and Data Collection
  • Introduction to Cartography including 2D and 3D maps

Taken together you will gain the knowledge and skills for an entry level role in a geospatial team in a range of industries. Your course will include a project from an employer. You will interact with employer presenting your ideas. You will get a chance to work in a team and learn more about what is it like to complete a geospatial project in the work place.
