National Progression Award: Digital Media Animation (Schools Pupils Only)

This course will provide a recognised national qualification in the field of computer modelling and animation. You will develop skills in producing both two and three dimensional animations using industry leading computer software from Adobe and Autodesk. The use of computer animation is growing substantially in industries such as engineering, architectural, web, games, phones, TV, and film with significant future skills shortages being predicted.

What will I study?

  • Introduction to Computer Animation
  • Computing: Animation Fundamentals
  • Digital Media: Audio Editing
  • The end goal of the course is to design and build a computer animation which will incorporate graphics and sound
  • You will explore how traditional animation techniques are being used to create computer animation for both films and games
  • Working in small teams, you will plan, design and build your own characters, backgrounds and objects using both 2D and 3D computer software
  • You will then animate these to produce a finished short sequence, create and add sound effects, and publish your completed animation to the web
  • Animation projects can include games intros, short stories, and public information films

Fife College will accept achievement of this course as equivalent to one National 5 (excluding Maths) for progression to:

  • National Certificate: Computer Games Development (Programming) SCQF Level 6
  • National Certificate: Computer Games: Creative Development and Animation SCQF Level 6
  • National Certificate: Computing with Digital Media (Web and Mobile Applications) SCQF Level 6
