COURSE INFORMATION

This program provides an ideal mix of hands-on training and classroom study, ensuring you gain a strong foundation in construction methods and increase your employability in retrofit trades. You will roll up your sleeves and tackle practical tasks, developing vital skills along the way. The course is 14 hours per week at our Levenmouth campus plus some online components that will take approximately 3hrs per week. Perfect for school leavers keen to embark on a construction career, whether you are interested in joinery or exploring other retrofitting tasks.
  • This program combines practical and theoretical modules to provide candidates with a comprehensive understanding of construction practices and enhance their employability in retrofit trade professions.
  •  You will acquire hands-on skills in practical subjects. 
  • The program involves attendance at college for 14 hours per week at our Levenmouth campus and working online to complete some units. It is tailored for you if you are seeking to develop manual skills in construction craft trades such as, joinery and plumbing.
  • This course is completed in one academic Semester and is delivered two and a half days per week for 18 weeks.
  • Candidates will acquire hands-on skills in practical subjects and research the retrofitting of buildings
  • Units covered could include 
  • Construction Crafts: Carpentry and Joinery Techniques
  • Construction Crafts: Roof Tiling 
  • Constructing housing joints
  • Removing and refitting water-filled radiators Working with non-manipulative fittings
  • Connecting flex to common apparatus
  • Introduction to the construction industry
  • Retro fit – tasks to include floor wall and roof insulation and fitting solar a panel to a roof
  • ICT, Local Investigation, problem solving and working with others 
The entry requirements are One of the following
  • Two National 4s in English and Maths
  • Successful completion of the School College Partnership course Skills for Work: Construction Craft and a positive ILR
  • Relevant industry experience and/or other qualifications will be considered on an individual basis 
  • You have the opportunity to advance to the NPA Level 5 Construction Skills program based on your successful achievement of this course and a positive ILR (Individual Learner Review)
  • Construction trades or Construction technician routes.
  • Attend group information session showing a keen interest in the area and participation in a group activity. School leavers will also require School transition form.
