About Brenda
Brenda was elected to the non-teaching staff position on the Board in September 2023 and currently serves as the School College Partnership Coordinator within the Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) team. Her work week typically involves checking in with young people enrolled in school-college partnership courses, reviewing attendance and attainment, and meeting with both curriculum and school representatives to evaluate courses and opportunities across the college. Brenda also represents Fife College on the "Opportunities for All" groups within the 18 Fife high schools, working to support young people as they transition into college. She collaborates with various college support services to help students succeed academically and secure positive outcomes.
Brenda is keenly aware that young people today face new challenges, such as mental health issues, resilience, and financial crises, which can create barriers to learning. She recognizes the difficulties education institutions face in attracting and retaining full-time learners. Despite these challenges, Brenda has witnessed the transformative impact a college experience can have on young people, from learning in a different environment to expanding their awareness of the opportunities available in the wider world.
Throughout her 35 years at Fife College, Brenda has held various roles, all connected to supporting the curriculum. She is a strong advocate for the college, having seen its benefits firsthand: both her husband, as a mature student, and her son have been students at Fife College.
