Suzanne Hermiston

About Suzanne

Suzanne Hermiston has worked in education for close to 20 years including the Further and Higher Education. In her current role as Director of Open Studies within the Centre for Open Learning at the University of Edinburgh, she is responsible for overseeing lifelong learning across Art and Design, Social Sciences, Humanities and STEM.

Suzanne is a passionate supporter of access for all to education and constantly seeks opportunities to identify articulation and progression routes between institutions, programmes and accreditation systems.

Her teaching experience within Computing and Business as well as Technology Enhanced Learning, have enabled her to pursue her interest in digital education which has provided a solid foundation in digital transformation which she continues to apply in her current role at the University of Edinburgh.

Outwith the formal teaching environment, Suzanne draws on her time as former Head of Discovery and Learning/Education at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and latterly the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.

Suzanne aims to utilise her leadership and teaching experience which covers Social Sciences, Art and Design, and STEM subjects to support the work of the Board. A self-described lifelong learner, Suzanne holds a PG Cert in Higher Education, a Masters in Computing Sciences and an honours degree in Communication with Modern Languages.

Born and educated in Fife, Suzanne is a proud Fifer who looks forward to working with Fife College to make a difference to the region which she has always called ‘Home’.
