Future-Ready Fife

Future-Ready Fife is a group of exciting and unique initiatives designed to drive learning whilst creating a positive impact within the community and encouraging innovative thinking.

Future-Ready Fife goes beyond our traditional curriculum, allowing students and partners to develop transformative ideas, tackle real-world challenges, and develop new skills. Incorporating community outreach and creative collaborations with cutting-edge research, Future-Ready Fife reflects our commitment to enriching the student experience and making a positive impact within Fife and beyond.

Our Current Projects

We are proud to be involved in a variety of exciting Future-Ready Fife Projects that span across different fields of study and interest. Each project is developed with the goal of creating real-world value and fostering collaborative learning environments. Some of our current projects include:

Fife College is establishing an Energy Transition Skills Hub at our Rosyth campus in partnership with Shell. This is a three-year programme to provide training and education in energy transition. We’re also creating a Nanogrid Interactive Learning Environment; a classroom fully powered by renewable energy that provides a real-world example of renewable energy infrastructure to help our students learn. The Hub will be used to run information events, workshops, short courses and accredited training for 2000 students.

The College is developing a new curriculum area to support Scotland’s fast-growing space sector. Covering the creation of a brand-new Geospatial Learning Lab and Geospatial Foundational Skills course, these programmes aim to widen access to geospatial careers for individuals without degrees, equipping school leavers, adult learners, and the underemployed with the necessary skills for entry-level positions in geospatial teams. In addition, the College offers three micro-credential courses which introduce students to the basics of the space industry.

H100 Fife

Fife College and gas distribution company SGN now have the UK’s first-ever hydrogen training facility for gas engineers. Located at our Levenmouth Campus, this facility is helping to build a net zero workforce in Fife by upskilling over 200 existing Gas Safe registered engineers to work with hydrogen gas. Engineers completing this training will work on SGN’s pioneering green hydrogen trial – H100 Fife, which is supplying green hydrogen to several hundred homes in Levenmouth, Fife, through a new hydrogen gas network built alongside the existing natural gas infrastructure.

Levenmouth Sustainable Construction Hub

Our ambition, over three years, is to establish a retrofitting regional hub that will train practitioners on energy efficiency measures for legacy properties, train business on procurement and emissions planning, and individual citizens similarly on what to buy and from who when it comes to solar PV, heat pumps, insulation and other sustainable technologies. The hub will be based at our Levenmouth Campus, taking advantage of our current work on domestic Hydrogen Heating networks.

Our Partnerships

Future-Ready Fife is powered by strong partnerships with local businesses, community organisations, charities, and industry leaders. These partnerships allow us to share expertise and resources to work toward common goals. By partnering with stakeholders, we ensure that our projects are relevant and impactful, providing value to all involved.

Whether it's working with local companies to offer students real-world work placements or collaborating with non-profits to address pressing community issues, our partnerships are at the heart of our success. Together, we create a dynamic environment for innovation, learning, and growth, supporting our vision of developing talent and empowering change throughout Fife and beyond.
