Biography
I grew up in Fife, my Father was a bus driver and my mother a factory worker. My course at Kirkcaldy (known then as SCOTEC Diploma in Science and Technology) in some ways set a course for my entire career.
The two years I spent at College were wonderful - I had amazing lecturers (although to be honest I was completely dreadful at Mechanical Engineering).
After College I went on to study Divinity at the University of Glasgow but have worked most of my life in the field of science and public health.
I am thoroughly enjoying my career which includes being President of the Association of Directors of Public Health UK. I enjoy sharing my experience and knowledge with students which led me to become a visiting Professor at the University of Hertfordshire on a regular basis.
I was also delighted to recently hear I will receive an Honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Hertfordshire later in 2022. My time at the College set the foundations for that, and I owe the College a great thanks.
My College days nurtured my enduring interest in science and gave me the foundations of scientific knowledge which has enabled me to do what I have done for the rest of my career.
My appreciation for what the College does, and my application of what I learned, is enduring and I am thrilled to be an alumnus of Fife College.
RELATED COURSE
This course develops the students’ knowledge within all of the sciences and their related industrial techniques. The course is designed to allow you to progress onto an HND Applied Biological Sciences. Alternatively, you can progress to university to study a range of science based courses (Biology,Chemistry or Physics) or directly into employment
